The Sea of Ice

The best way to experience France’s longest Glacier at the Montenvers – Mer de Glace anytime of the year is on the Montenvers Train. Leaving from Chamonix town centre only a few minutes walk. The Montenvers train gradually climbs up into the mountains along the historic cog railway, giving you time to take in the breathtaking scenery. If you’re lucky, you might even see some wild animals.Expect nothing but jaws dropping views of the Sea of Ice, known as Mer de Glace, in French. Once you’ve reached the top of the clouds, you’ll be welcomed with breathtaking views of the largest Glacier overlooking the Chamonix Valley.A perfect day out with your family, there are several hiking routes to meander around and take in the site.
